Arthur Cheng is an associate in the restructuring team in the Hong Kong office of Kirkland & Ellis. Arthur has experience in advising creditors, debtors and insolvency practitioners on restructuring and insolvency matters. He also has experience with complex, multi-jurisdictional litigation and arbitration disputes.
Arthur is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

Prior to joining Kirkland, Arthur’s representative matters have included:
Advising a private alternative asset manager in concurrent enforcement proceedings in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom, including bankruptcy proceedings against personal guarantors and enforcement of security interests
Advising a major international bank in a dispute with a borrower and its bankruptcy trustee across multiple jurisdictions, including Hong Kong SAR and the US
Advising a major Hong Kong financial institution on complex dishonest assistance and knowing receipt claims by the liquidators of a formerly listed company
Advising a group of lenders in a syndicated loan for the recovery from PRC counterparties of a loan worth over US$500 million
Advising an HKSE-listed electronics manufacturer in successfully obtaining an injunction to restrain the presentation of winding-up petition against a significant subsidiary
Advising a Chinese state-owned construction company on the successful application for a restoration order in relation to a dissolved Hong Kong company and the removal and appointment of liquidators
Advising an arbitral award creditor in Hong Kong enforcement proceedings, including resisting an application to set aside a statutory demand and the subsequent bankruptcy proceedings
Advising provisional liquidators appointed by the Cayman Court in seeking recognition and assistance from the Hong Kong Court
Advising a major international bank in Hong Kong recovery proceedings following cross-border cyber fraud, including the successful application for proprietary and Mareva injunctions and enforcement of judgment
Advising major international banks on misselling claims arising from the sales of a variety of financial products
Advising a Bursa Malaysia-listed company in a HKIAC arbitration proceedings against PRC counterparties on a contractual claim and successfully obtaining interim relief from the PRC Courts in accordance with the then latest “Arrangement Concerning Mutual Assistance in Court-ordered Interim Measures in Aid of Arbitral Proceedings by the Courts of the Mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region”
Advising a major Chinese state-owned mining company in an arbitration commenced at the HKIAC concerning disputes over an African joint venture polymetallic mining project
Advising a private equity investor in relation to an ICDR-AAA arbitration
Advising an investment company in connection with a UNCITRAL arbitration administered by the HKIAC in relation to a joint venture dispute with an international retail group
