Overview

Mack Dowiak is an associate in the Washington, D.C., office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. He represents clients in administrative litigation and transactional matters in the energy sector.

Mack works with a broad spectrum of energy industry participants, including investment companies, private utilities, and natural gas and oil pipeline companies. He has experience in high-profile disputes before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (“FERC”), particularly including matters involving co-location of large load and capacity auction design. His transactional work spans project development matters and acquisitions and divestitures of regulated assets that require approval from FERC.

Prior to joining Kirkland, Mack clerked for Judge William S. Stickman IV of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He also worked at a large international law firm advising clients on energy transactions and environmental compliance. Mack was part of teams counseling public and private companies on state environmental permitting requirements and environmental risks related to acquisitions. Additionally, he advised financial institutions and corporations on matters involving voluntary carbon credits, carbon capture and sequestration, and hydrocarbon infrastructure projects.

Before becoming a lawyer, Mack worked as an engineer in the energy infrastructure industry for both a major engineering, procurement, and construction firm and a large energy holding company. He leverages this experience to provide pragmatic legal advice grounded in technical understanding.

Mack maintains an active pro bono practice counseling nonprofit organizations on formation and governance matters.
