Overview

Zach Holmstead is a litigation partner in Kirkland’s Salt Lake City office. He has served as trial and appellate counsel in federal and state courts across the country. He has broad experience in complex commercial litigation, including antitrust, class action, breach of contract, environmental, healthcare, mass tort and products liability matters. He also regularly counsels corporations, private equity firms, venture capital firms and portfolio companies regarding antitrust compliance, risk management and dispute resolution.

Zach has achieved numerous significant outcomes for his clients. For example, he served as lead counsel in the successful defense against antitrust class action claims in Chicoine v. Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, in which the Supreme Court of Iowa unanimously affirmed denial of class certification and plaintiffs voluntarily dismissed their claims following a hearing on Wellmark’s motion for summary judgment. He also argued a successful motion to exclude plaintiffs’ general causation expert in the Paraquat coordinated proceedings in California state court. And he was recognized as part of a team of Kirkland lawyers who obtained summary judgment in favor of Syngenta in the Paraquat multidistrict litigation after the federal court excluded plaintiffs’ general causation expert. He also served as trial counsel to AbbVie in obtaining a full defense verdict in a bellwether trial in the Testosterone Replacement Therapy multidistrict litigation. The American Lawyer called this a “huge win” that “changes the momentum for AbbVie as the MDL unfolds.”
