Dr. Lydia Tsioli

Associate Restructuring
Kirkland & Ellis International LLP

Overview

Dr. Lydia Tsioli is an associate in the Restructuring Practice Group in the London office of Kirkland & Ellis International LLP. She advises debtors, creditors and strategic investors in national and cross-border restructurings and insolvencies.

Lydia holds a PhD in Law (Corporate Debt Restructuring & Insolvency) from King's College London. Her PhD constitutes, what is believed to be, the first comprehensive analysis of corporate debt restructuring law through the prism of the notion of viability. For this purpose, her PhD conducts an in-depth examination of US, UK and EU restructuring law, covering therefore most key jurisdictions in the field.

As a recognition of her research, Lydia was awarded the International Insolvency Institute’s 2021 Silver Medal in its ‘Prize in International Insolvency Studies’ and became a ‘Class X’ member of the Institute’s NextGen Leadership Program, which recognises “the best of future experts in international insolvency”. Moreover, her research was recognised by the Insolvency Lawyers’ Association (UK), which awarded her its sole scholarship for 2019–2020.

Lydia has worked in private practice (legal, banking and corporate services sectors), academia and law-making at European and national institutions. Her restructuring-specific experience includes working for White & Case LLP in Brussels, the European Commission and the European Banking Federation. At the European Commission and the European Banking Federation specifically, Lydia worked on the Directive on restructuring and insolvency.

Lydia has been an invited speaker at INSOL International, INSOL Europe, the University of Oxford and the University of Leiden. She has been published, among others, in the Journal of Corporate Law Studies, the Norton Journal of Bankruptcy Law and Practice, INSOL Europe, the Corporate Rescue and Insolvency Journal, Palgrave MacMillan and the Harvard Law School Bankruptcy Roundtable.
