Kirkland Partner Daniel Lavon-Krein Recognized as American Lawyer’s 2024 Capital and Solutions Attorney of the Year
The American Lawyer named Kirkland & Ellis partner Daniel Lavon-Krein the “Corporate Attorney of the Year: Capital and Solutions” at its 2024 Industry Awards. The award honors an attorney who has helped clients achieve business success, impacted an industry and created novel mechanisms to close deals.
During the relevant time period for the Corporate Attorney of the Year contest, Daniel led significant matters, including:
- Counseling Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), a leading independent infrastructure fund manager, on its acquisition by BlackRock, Inc. (NYSE: BLK). The combination creates an industry leader in infrastructure across equity, debt and solutions – providing a diverse range of infrastructure sector expertise and exposure across developed and emerging markets. With approximately $170 billion in AUM, the platform will field a 600-person strong global team that manages a diversified portfolio of more than 300 active investments with operations in over 100 countries.
- Representing senior management of Fortress Investment Group to take a significant equity position in Mubadala Capital. The transaction allowed Fortress and Mubadala to acquire 90.01% of the equity of Fortress that was held by SoftBank.
- Advising Linden Capital Partners, a Chicago-based healthcare private equity firm, in connection with a passive, minority investment in its business from Blue Owl's GP Strategic Capital platform and Lunate Capital via their joint venture. The passive minority investment supports the continued growth of Linden's investment platform and development of strategic initiatives by bringing additional flexibility to the firm's balance sheet.
- Advising alternatives asset manager Castlelake L.P. on a strategic partnership with Brookfield Asset Management (NYSE: BAM, TSX: BAM) in which Brookfield purchased a 51% stake in Castlelake’s fee-related earnings.
Daniel is a partner in Kirkland’s Investment Funds Group and serves on the Firm's Executive Committee, the governing body of Kirkland & Ellis. He has championed countless large global private equity fund formations ranging from boutique sponsors to mega-funds across a wide variety of strategies. In addition, as the co-founder and co-head of the Strategic GP Advisory practice at Kirkland, Daniel is widely recognized as a leader and pioneer in advising private equity sponsors and buyers on complex minority investments in existing firms, control sale transactions and other liquidity events and strategic transactions.
