Kirkland & Ellis Moves to New Office in Salt Lake City
Kirkland & Ellis’ Salt Lake City office has relocated to 95 South State Street today.
95 State is a brand new 515,000-square-foot Class A office tower in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City. Kirkland will occupy approximately 100,000 square feet across four floors of the building.
A significant feature of 95 State is The Link, a renovated and expanded underground pedestrian tunnel connecting directly to City Creek, a world-class, mixed-use shopping and dining destination, and downtown arts, entertainment and professional sports venues.
“This move represents our commitment to Salt Lake City and the exceptional talent we’ve added here in just two years,” said Travis Nelson, corporate partner at Kirkland & Ellis. “Our new permanent office is state of the art and designed for the way we work as collaborative, cross-office and cross-practice teams delivering the best of Kirkland to every client engagement.”
Since opening in 2021, Kirkland’s Salt Lake City office has grown to include more than 100 lawyers, making it the fifth largest law firm in Utah according to Utah Business. The office serves clients on complex transactions and litigation matters, working in integrated teams across Kirkland’s U.S. offices to provide legal advice to private equity firms, public and private companies, investors, boards of directors and other corporate clients.
In MountainWest Capital Network’s annual Deal Flow Report, Kirkland tied for handling the most M&A deals involving Utah-based companies in 2022. The Firm’s Salt Lake City-based litigators have also been profiled by The American Lawyer for recent defense wins and the 2023 edition of Chambers USA, America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, recognized Kirkland’s Utah office for Corporate/M&A and General Commercial Litigation.
“We were thrilled to grow faster in Salt Lake City than we could have imagined,” said Brigham Cannon, a litigation partner at Kirkland & Ellis. “We have a strong team working on complex and high-profile matters from all around the Firm, and we’re excited to further cement our place in the city with a functional and beautiful new office at 95 State.”
In line with Kirkland’s commitment to its communities, the office is involved with local business associations, law schools, legal aid and philanthropic endeavors. Kirkland is an active member of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce. In partnership with Brigham Young University Law School, the Firm will host two BYU Law Academies this year to provide students who have just completed their first year of law school with skills training from experienced practitioners.
