I’m proud to work somewhere that prioritizes quality and excellence. Being at Kirkland means being around people who take their work seriously and have a deep commitment to their clients. It’s truly invaluable to be a part of a firm you can count on to consistently pursue the highest-quality outcome.

I always knew I wanted to work somewhere that wouldn't compromise who I am. Even during my interview process, I noticed how much space Kirkland makes for attorneys and staff to be themselves.

Practicing restructuring at Kirkland affords unparalleled opportunity. Even as a junior associate, I’ve had the chance to draft motions, lead workstreams, negotiate with counterparties and even present in court. The experiences I’ve had so early in my career have been truly invaluable and have made me feel like a capable attorney.

Since the start of my legal career at Kirkland, I’ve looked to my peers and seniors as examples. There’s no single path to success at Kirkland, and by working with a variety of people I’ve discovered the work style that best suits me. The attorney I am today is a culmination of the many people who have invested in me.

During my time at Kirkland, I’ve learned that you often receive opportunities even before you ask for them. So, in the lead-up to a big hearing or other big moments on the job, I remember that I have a team beside me and that I’m more prepared than I realize.

I initially found the idea of an open assignment system intimidating. It’s a system that allows for organic work relationships to develop and affords you the ability to take advantage of your career. Navigating the open assignment system doesn’t need to be complicated; it can just be having conversations and pursuing the work you’re interested in.

I consider the restructuring practice at Kirkland to be a team sport. I’ve learned so much from the people I’ve worked with, not only by observing them, but also because they’ve invested in teaching me. There is so much at a law firm that law school does not necessarily prepare you for. While the work is fast-paced and the demands are high, there’s an undeniable commitment that we all cross the finish line together.

I spent my 2L summer at Kirkland, and the friends I made are people I still hang out with on the weekends and talk to on a regular basis. While the main focus of the Kirkland Summer Associate Program is to expose you to the work, it also prioritizes building community. I was lucky to meet a group of people who are genuinely my friends.
