McClain Thompson is a litigation partner in Washington. McClain has broad experience litigating high-stakes trial matters around the country and across industries. McClain has a proven record of success in litigating bankruptcy disputes. He has been trial counsel more than 15 times, including in some of the biggest and most high-profile bankruptcies in recent years, such as Rite Aid Corporation, Chesapeake Energy, Frontier Communications and Energy Future Holdings. McClain has also represented debtors and creditors in dozens of other contested and evidentiary hearings, often on expedited schedules and involving eight- and nine-figure disputes.
In addition, McClain also represents Fortune 500 companies, private equity sponsors, and other clients in product liability claims, mass torts, consumer class actions, energy litigation and other complex commercial matters.
In his pro bono work, McClain successfully helped three prisoners win federal clemency petitions, securing their early release for non-violent offenses.
Before joining Kirkland, McClain clerked for Judge Duane Benton of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
