Albert Weatherill is a financial services regulatory partner based in the London office. Albert’s diverse practice involves advising clients on regulatory compliance, regulatory change, regulatory engagement, transactional matters, supervisory and enforcement matters, internal investigations, governance, risk management, authorisation and licencing projects, international expansion projects and commercial partnerships.

- Advising financial sponsors and other financial institutions on regulatory and compliance arrangements relating to topics including governance and market abuse.
- Advising financial sponsors on the regulatory aspects of M&A transactions.
- Advising a range of financial institutions on the application of the UK’s regulatory framework to a wide variety of domestic and cross-border financial services products and services.*
- Advising a range of financial institutions on authorisation and registration applications with the FCA across asset management, brokerage, banking, payments and electronic money, and consumer credit.*
- Advising financial sponsors and other asset managers on the application of various UK and EU regulation, including MiFID II, AIFMD, the Money Market Funds Regulation, PRIIPs and UCITS.*
- Advising a range of financial institutions on ongoing regulatory and compliance matters relating to governance, market abuse, marketing, conduct of business, regulatory engagement, outsourcing, risk management, regulatory capital and regulatory engagement.*
- Supporting numerous financial institutions in designing, developing and launching innovative financial services products and services across digital banking, payments, consumer and corporate lending, cryptoassets, banking as a service, decentralised finance and blockchain and distributed ledger technology.*
- Advising KKR in relation to numerous transactions, including:
- the conversion of its NYSE-traded entity from a limited partnership to a corporation and various additional corporate reorganisations undertaken by KKR*;
- its investment into Pillarstone, a non-performing loan platform*;
- its take private of ASX-listed lender Pepper Group Limited and multiple subsequent follow-on transactions in relation to Pepper*;
- its majority investment in car finance platform Oodle*;
- its strategic investment in Marshall Wace, a leading hedge fund*;
- the merger between KKR’s hedge fund business, KKR Prisma, and Pacific Coast Alternative Asset Management Company*;
- its investment in Söderberg & Partners, a Swedish insurer and asset manager, and various follow-on transactions involving Söderberg*;
- its investment in heidelpay (now called Unzer), a European payments company*;
- its investment in Vitesse, a UK payments company*;
- its investment in TDC Capital, an SME funding platform, from Toscafund*;
- its acquisition of Avida, a Nordic credit institution*;

- Advising BMO Financial Group on the sale of its EMEA asset management business to Ameriprise Financial.*

- Advising Starling Bank on numerous rounds of funding totalling over £350 million.*
