Xin Florence Zhang
Overview
Xin Florence Zhang is a partner in the Investment Funds Group at Kirkland & Ellis LLP. With a focus on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, structured equity transactions, and minority interest sales, Florence offers comprehensive counsel to a wide range of U.S. and international public and private companies, as well as private equity firms. Her experience extends to both domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, encompassing deals with transaction values ranging from several million to $80 billion.
Florence has advised on some of the most intricate and notable M&A transactions in recent years. These include the acquisition of Fortress Investment Group by Fortress Management from SoftBank, the strategic business combination of MSD Partners and BDT & Company, AT&T's sale of DirecTV to TPG, the acquisition of GGP by Brookfield Property Partners, and the tri-party public merger involving NorthStar Asset Management, NorthStar Realty Finance, and Colony Capital.
Florence brings extensive experience in advising public companies on corporate governance matters, activism and takeover defense, as well as providing assistance to financial institutions in M&A financial advisory matters. As part of her strategic GP advisory practice, she provides guidance to clients on structuring complex incentive compensation and equity ownership arrangements for principals of investment management firms.

- AT&T in its sale of its U.S. video business unit with an enterprise value of $16.25 billion to TPG Capital
- Bright House Networks in the $80 billion three-way combination with Charter Communications and Time Warner Cable
- Cheniere Energy and its Board of Directors in connection with the appointment of Jack A. Fusco as president and chief executive officer, of Cheniere
- A consortium led by China Three Gorges, including Hubei Energy Group, ACE Investment Fund and CNIC Corporation, in the $1.39 billion acquisition of Empresa de Generación Huallaga from Odebrecht Energia del Perú and Odebrecht Energía
- Columbia Pipeline Group in its $13 billion acquisition by TransCanada
- Diageo in its $610 million acquisition of Aviation American Gin through the acquisition of Aviation Gin and Davos Brands and $550 million sale of nineteen brands to Sazerac
- Empire Company in connection with the acquisition by its subsidiary, Sobeys, of substantially all the assets of Safeway's Canadian subsidiary
