The Firm: The firm sets itself apart from other Chicago-based, corporate practices, through its litigation strength ("the pre-eminent Chicago firm for commercial litigation") and its antitrust group.  The practice is scattered across four cities, and also includes a London office for UK and EU regulatory issues.
 
The Lawyers: In Washington, Tefft Smith ("one of the rare breed of anti-trust expert who is a specialist FCC leader") is the major antitrust player here, and is involved at the early stages of most telecoms mergers in assessing their antitrust implications.  He advised GTE on its planning for the Bell Atlantic merger, and is also representing Bell South on its antitrust and litigation work in connection with the Sprint/Worldcom merger.
