Patent Litigation Survey - Frequent Filers

In IP Worldwide 's second annual survey of patent litigation powerhouses, Kirkland ranked second in both the plaintiff and defense categories. The survey, which ranks firms by the number of patent cases they brought and defended in 2001, lists Kirkland & Ellis as the highest ranking "full-service" firm in either category. Kirkland served as defense counsel in 25 patent cases and plaintiff's counsel in 24 cases, making it one of only fifteen firms included in both categories.

Exemplary cases include Kirkland's work as plaintiff's counsel in Honeywell International Inc. vs. Hamilton Sundstrand Corp. in which we obtained a $46.5 million award for our client, Honeywell. Kirkland's successful defense of Infineon Technologies in the semiconductor device case, Rambus v. Infineon Technologies, in which our client received $3.5 million in punitive damages, was also mentioned.
