DOJ’s Scott Scheele to Join Kirkland’s Antitrust Practice
Kirkland & Ellis LLP is pleased to announce that Scott Scheele has joined the Firm as a partner in the Antitrust & Competition Practice Group. Mr. Scheele is based in the Firm’s Washington, D.C., office.

Mr. Scheele joined the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Antitrust Division in 1995. With over 30 years of experience, he was a senior executive and supervisor in DOJ. He has experience in the media, telecommunications, technology and financial services industries; and substantial antitrust litigation, trial, investigation and management skills. He also supervised enforcement of consent decrees and competition advocacy, including serving as a primary management liaison with counterparts at the Federal Communications Commission.
As Chief of the Antitrust Division’s Media, Entertainment and Communications Section for nine years (2012-2021), Mr. Scheele supervised approximately 20 trial lawyers and numerous staff members. In this position, he supervised all merger and civil conduct investigations and implemented competition policy in the areas of wireless and wireline telecommunications, media and entertainment. For eight years (2004-2012) he was Assistant Chief of the DOJ’s Networks & Technology Enforcement Section. He was also a trial attorney in the Antitrust Division and an associate at Howrey & Simon.
Mr. Scheele earned his bachelor’s degree from Franklin & Marshall College and his law degree from Villanova University School of Law. He has been Vice Chair of the American Bar Association’s Merger & Acquisitions Committee since 2017 and frequently speaks on antitrust topics.
