The Chicago Council on Global Affairs is an independent, nonpartisan membership organization that provides insight and influences the public discourse on critical global issues. The Council is committed to bringing clarity and offering solutions to issues that transcend borders and transform how people, businesses and governments engage the world.
Navy SEAL Foundation
The Navy SEAL Foundation provides immediate and ongoing support and assistance to the U.S. Naval Special Warfare community and its families. Donations to the Navy SEAL Foundation go toward tragedy assistance, family events, scholarships and educational assistance, and history preservation.
New York Cares
New York Cares is committed to mobilizing New Yorkers to meet the community’s most pressing needs. Donations help the organization’s volunteer force to provide assistance to nearly half a million of the city’s at-risk children, youth, seniors and families.
Culture & Arts
Chicago Symphony Orchestra
The central mission of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is to present classical music to Chicago, national and international audiences. Donations to the CSO fund performances, tours, and educational and community engagement programs.
Park Avenue Armory
The Park Avenue Armory is dedicated to supporting unconventional works in the visual and performing arts that need nontraditional spaces for their full realization. The Armory also provides arts education programs to underserved public school students across New York City.
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, along with its Glassell School of Art and its two house museums, embodies the diverse character of Houston. The museum offers educational programs serving students of all ages and collaborates with nearly 100 community partners.
Diversity
Inner-City Muslim Action Network
The Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN) is a community organization that fosters health, wellness and healing in Chicago’s inner city by organizing for social change, cultivating the arts and operating a holistic health center.
Immigration Equality
Immigration Equality provides free direct legal services to asylum seekers, LGBTQ immigrant and binational couples and families, detainees and undocumented LGBTQ people seeking safety, fair treatment and freedom. Kirkland has provided pro bono assistance to Immigration Equality clients for more than a decade.
Justice & Diversity Center of the Bar Association of San Francisco
The Justice & Diversity Center of the Bar Association of San Francisco advances fairness and equality by providing pro bono legal services to low-income people and educational programs that foster diversity in the legal profession and serve approximately 9,500 disadvantaged San Franciscans a year. Kirkland provides pro bono legal assistance to Justice & Diversity Center clients.
Education
Teach for America
Teach for America is a national teacher corps of recent college graduates who commit two years to teach and to effect change in under-resourced urban and rural public schools. Several Kirkland attorneys are Teach for America alumni, and the Kirkland & Ellis Foundation contribution enables the organization to recruit, select, train and support new corps members.
Genesys Works
Genesys Works is a national organization that aims to transform the lives of disadvantaged high school students through skills training, meaningful internships and impactful relationships. In addition to the Kirkland & Ellis Foundation’s contributions, Kirkland employs Genesys Works interns across several of its offices.
Girls Inc. of New York City
Girls Inc. of New York City offers gender-based educational programs focused on math, science, health and safety, financial literacy and multicultural appreciation to improve the lives of girls between ages 6 and 18 in the city’s five boroughs. Kirkland hosts Girls Inc.’s annual Career Day, in which the Firm invites high school girls to its New York office to learn more about legal careers.

City of Hope
City of Hope is a world leader in the research and treatment of cancer, diabetes and other serious illnesses. Founded in 1913, it is one of only 47 comprehensive cancer centers in the nation, as designated by the National Cancer Institute.
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is the leading global organization funding Type 1 diabetes research. JDRF has invested nearly $2 billion in research over the past 45 years.
American Heart Association
The American Heart Association (AHA) is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. The AHA funds innovative research, fights for stronger public health policies and provides public health education. Kirkland has participated in the AHA’s Lawyers Have Heart 10K race and 5K run and walk for more than a decade.
Legal
Legal Aid Society
The Legal Aid Society is the nation’s oldest and largest private nonprofit organization providing free legal services to low-income individuals and families in New York City. The Legal Aid Society’s law reform work benefits approximately 2 million low-income families and individuals, and the landmark rulings in many of the cases have statewide and national impact.
Lawyer's Committee for Civil Rights Under Law
The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law is a civil rights organization that aims to secure equal justice for all through the rule of law, targeting in particular the inequalities confronting African-Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities. The Committee works to address issues such as voting rights, employment discrimination, fair housing and community development, environmental health and justice, and educational opportunity.
LAF
LAF, formerly the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago, provides free legal services in non-criminal matters to people living in poverty in the Chicago area. Through advocacy, education, collaboration and litigation, the organization empowers individuals, protects fundamental rights, strengthens communities, creates opportunities and achieves justice. The Firm provides pro bono assistance to LAF clients.
Youth
Bain Capital Children's Charities
Bain Capital Children’s Charities provides financial support to charitable organizations that benefit children and young people. Every Bain Capital employee gets the opportunity to nominate U.S. and international charities for donation. Organizations that have benefited include Boston’s Children Hospital, City Year, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Horizons for Homeless Children.
Chance UK
Chance UK is an early-intervention program that provides mentoring and family support to children between ages 5 and 11 who are excluded from school due to behavioral issues.
Urban Initiatives
Urban Initiatives’ mission is to empower Chicago’s youth to become agents of community change through academic success, healthy living and leadership development. The organization’s Work to Play program provides children in grades K-4, regardless of skill level, with the chance to belong to a soccer team where they learn about health, character and teamwork.
