James Boswell is a debt finance partner in the London office of Kirkland & Ellis International LLP. He advises financial sponsors and borrowers on a wide range of complex financing transactions across the energy and infrastructure sector. He has more than 20 years of debt financing experience covering the full spectrum of financing products including acquisition financings, multi-sourced platform financings (rated and unrated), institutional loans and private placements (USPP and EUPP), capex roll-out facilities, holdco financings, equity bridge loans, portfolio financings, minority stake financings and restructurings.

Since joining Kirkland, James has been involved in the following matters:

  • KKR on the investment in Enilive
  • Apollo on the acquisition of a stake in bp Pipelines TAP
  • Arcus on the sale of Constellation Cold Logistics to EQT
  • Brookfield’s Genesee & Wyoming in connection with the launch of a multifacility debt offering
  • Solör Bioenergy Group on SEK 22 billion long term financing
  • Apollo-backed Energos Infrastructure on the acquisition of a transformative marine LNG asset with long-term charter contracts in Germany
  • Digital 9 Infrastructure on the sale of Verne Global
  • Beacon Rail on its acquisition of Mitsui Rail Capital Europe
  • A consortium led by Sandbrook Capital on the acquisition of NeXtWind Capital

Prior to joining Kirkland, James was involved in the following matters:

  • Regulated UK water businesses Yorkshire Water, Southern Water, Affinity Water and South East Water
  • Nordic district heating business, Solor Bioenergi, including with respect to bolt-on acquisitions for Falbygdens Energi AB’s district heating assets, Vasa Varme, Ale Fjarrvarme, Strangnas and Norsk Bioenergi
  • The acquisition of a minority stake in Telia's Nordic towers business and subsequent USPP refinancing
  • The investment by a consortium of financial investors in Brussels Airport
  • The public acquisition financing for the acquisition of bus and rail operator, The Go Ahead Group plc
  • Nordic fibre and datacentre group, GlobalConnect
  • The acquisition, financing and subsequent refinancing of Estonian district heating group Utilitas
  • The acquisition of Falck Renewables SpA (renamed Renantis)
  • The public acquisition of UK smart metering business Calisen plc
