Overview

Emily Geier is a restructuring partner in the New York office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. 

Emily advises companies, private equity firms and other investors on capital structure, liquidity and other strategic solutions for public and private companies across industries, including liability management transactions, cross-border protocols, out-of-court restructurings and court proceedings. Emily also advises boards of directors and senior management on fiduciary duties and corporate governance. Emily has advised clients in some of the largest and most complex restructurings in recent years, including Energy Future Holdings, Toys “R” Us, Nordic Aviation Capital and Bed Bath & Beyond.  

Emily was selected by the American Bankruptcy Institute for its 2024 list of “40 under 40 - Emerging Leaders in Insolvency Practice.” Emily was also named one of Law360’s “Risings Stars” for 2024, as one of five restructuring attorneys under 40 whose accomplishments transcend their age. In 2023, Emily was named an “Outstanding Young Restructuring Lawyer” by Turnarounds & Workouts.

Emily is a frequent lecturer, speaker and writer on restructuring related topics. Emily is a part-time Lecturer at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where she teaches the “Corporate Restructuring” course every Fall semester. Emily recently led a panel at the 20th Annual Wharton Restructuring Distressed Investing Conference, titled “Retooling Retail: Trends, Strategies, and Pitfalls.”

Emily is a member of Kirkland’s Associate Review Committee and Summer Program Committee, in addition to serving as co-chair of the Firmwide Paralegal Oversight Committee. Emily is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and Turnaround Management Association.
