Kirkland's Leading Role in McDermott's Restructuring Recognized as the American Bankruptcy Institute's International Matter of the Year
The American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI)’s International Committee have recognized the restructuring of McDermott International - in which Kirkland played the leading role, advising McDermott - as their 2024 “International Matter of the Year”.
This was a highly-contested, multi-billion-dollar restructuring via a UK restructuring plan, two Dutch restructuring plans and related U.S. recognition under Chapter 15 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. The restructuring successfully achieved the amendment and extension of secured debt facilities and a full discharge and release of litigation claims including a $1.3 billion arbitration claim.
