Litigator of the Week Runners-Up and Shout-Outs
Ravi Subramanian Shankar and Rush Howell were recognized as runners-up for The American Lawyer Litigation Daily's "Litigator of the Week" for their work for client GLAS Trust Company. Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan was also recognized for advising BYJU’s Alpha.
"... Litigators at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan and Kirkland & Ellis secured a judgment of more than $540 million last week against the holding company for Indian edtech company BYJU’s; Riju Ravindran, the brother of the eponymous founder of BYJU’s; and Camshaft Capital Fund, a “hedge fund” that listed its place of business as an International House of Pancakes in Miami. Quinn litigators represent BYJU’s Alpha, a Delaware special purpose financing vehicle formed to receive proceeds of loans to the company that’s now in voluntary bankruptcy proceedings, and Kirkland represents GLAS Trust Company LLC, the agent on more than $1 billion in loans. The joint team secured summary judgment last month against the defendants on fraudulent transfer and breach of fiduciary duty claims tied to $533 million in missing funds after U.S. Bankruptcy Judge John Dorsey in Delaware agreed with GLAS investigators who concluded Camshaft was a “sham.” The Quinn Emanuel team includes partner Ben Finestone and of counsel Kate Scherling. The Kirkland team includes partners Ravi Subramanian Shankar and Rush Howell."
